Compression helps some files, not every file.

Packaging makes a group easier to receive. Compression tries to reduce bytes. Those are related jobs, but they are not the same thing.

Packaging versus compression

When you select several files, HubTransfer may package them into one organised download so names and grouping remain together. Packaging can be useful even when the final number of bytes barely changes. Compression analyses repeated data and represents it more efficiently; its result depends heavily on the original formats.

A file can therefore be packaged without becoming meaningfully smaller. The purpose is a cleaner hand-off, not a guaranteed reduction. HubTransfer makes preparation decisions automatically, but the 25 GB limit applies to the complete selection before the transfer is created.

Trying to compress an already-compressed file can consume time without reducing transfer size. It may even become slightly larger because every package needs a small amount of structural information.

Prepare a useful selection

Remove duplicate files and temporary exports before selecting the folder. Use clear names that make sense to the recipient, and avoid characters that another operating system may handle differently. If folder structure is important, keep related items together rather than sending several confusing transfers.

Do not recompress a video merely to fit the limit unless you are prepared to reduce video quality. Video transcoding is different from ordinary archive compression: it changes how the media is encoded and can take substantial time.

Check the received package

The recipient should wait for the browser to complete the download, then open or extract it with a current tool. Compare important file counts and, for critical work, verify checksums supplied separately by the sender. Keep the original source until the recipient confirms the contents are readable.

If extraction fails after an interrupted download, retry while the transfer remains active or ask the sender for a new transfer. A partially saved package cannot be repaired by renaming it.
